Why the 42-day check matters
The 42-day postpartum visit is a key moment to assess recovery. By then the uterus has largely involuted and wounds are healing, so the checkup can catch pelvic floor, blood pressure, or mood issues early.
Exams to expect
- Uterus & lochia: check involution and whether discharge has cleared.
- Wound healing: assess tears, episiotomy, or C-section scars.
- Pelvic floor: screen for leaking or prolapse; rehab if needed.
- Blood pressure & weight: rule out lingering hypertension.
- Breasts & feeding: fix clogging or nipple pain.
- Mood: a brief screen for postpartum depression.
Practical tips
Bring your pregnancy and birth records. If breastfeeding is tricky, express beforehand. Schedule the baby’s newborn check on the same day to save a trip. Start pelvic rehab early if advised.
