I. Building Sleep Habits
0-3 Months
- Establish day-night awareness: no drawn curtains in daytime, quiet and dim at night
- Swaddling: mimics the womb environment, increases sense of security
- White noise: mimics in-womb sounds, helps fall asleep
4-12 Months
- Establish a fixed bedtime routine: bath-massage-feed-story-sleep
- Cultivate independent sleep: put baby down when drowsy but awake, avoid nursing to sleep
- Wean night feedings: gradually reduce night feeds after 6 months
1-3 Years
- Fixed schedule: same sleep and wake times every day
- Comfort object: use a lovey or stuffed toy to help fall asleep
- Handle separation anxiety: tell baby mom will return, build trust
II. Building Eating Habits
- Start solids at 6 months: from single to varied, from thin to thick
- BLW (Baby-Led Weaning): let baby grasp food on their own after 8 months
- No chasing to feed: eat in the high chair, clear away once off it
- No force-feeding: respect the baby’s sense of fullness
- Eat together as a family: imitation is the best learning
III. Potty Training
The golden window for potty training is 18-24 months, but every baby develops at their own pace. Start when you see these signs:
- Can keep diaper dry for over 2 hours
- Shows interest in adults using the toilet
- Can express the need to pee or poop with words or gestures
- Can pull pants down and up independently
Avoid rushing potty training—encourage more, scold less, prepare a small potty and training pants, and let it happen naturally.
